Ocon Bricks Up Student Accommodation

25th May 2015

Company Announcement - Student life is a vibrant life which needs accommodation. Just looking at the increased numbers of learners wanting to register at the University of Johannesburg and University of the Witwatersrand and other nearby academic institutions each year, reflects the dire need to increase the development of nearby student accommodation. Ocon Brick has recently supplied over three million clay stock bricks for student apartments at 31 Saratoga Avenue, Berea, Johannesburg.

Janiel Strydom, Site Agent for Gothic Construction said “The demand for student accommodation is enormous. The  ‘31 Saratoga Avenue’ development consists of 180 units in the form of ‘communal’ type apartments, which essentially comprises six bedrooms, two toilets, one kitchen and a communal room in differing configurations. The entire project has 1,080 rooms. We chose bricks from Ocon Brick due to it being a better quality product which offered amongst other features, a superb longevity span and a reliable delivery. It is a better product than others on the market, and that is why we chose it “.

“Ocon Brick’s support servicing is superb. When we have had to contact Ocon Brick over weekends, we have always received a prompt response from our Ocon representative - no matter how small the issue. A very small amount of bricks were slightly darker than the rest, but when you are supplied with over three million clay stock bricks, a small differential is to be expected. We were able to use these bricks without diminishing the seamless finish on the project. Our next project is a similar project with TUKKIES in Pretoria, and I am confident Ocon Brick will be there bricking with us” said Strydom.

The ‘31 Saratoga Avenue’ project started in January 2014, and will have been completed by March 2015. The value of the project is R110 million.
