Project Description
The Nurek hydropower plant is the largest hydropower plant in Asia.

It comprises a 300-m-high embankment dam with a watertight core, two spillway tunnels on the left bank, which have been designed with a discharge capacity of 5 400 m3/s, and nine Francis turbines with an installed capacity of 3 000 MW.

The project will rehabilitate and restore the generating capacity of nine power generating units at Nurek plant, improve their efficiency and enhance the safety of the Nurek dam.

Barqi Tojik has awarded ANDRITZ an order for the comprehensive modernisation of the existing nine generating units at Nurek.

The company will supply and install new 380 MW Francis turbines and generators, including new transformers, as well as the electrical and mechanical auxiliary equipment within the power house.

After modernisation, the installed capacity of the generating units will be increased by about 12%.

The contract is valued at more than €120-million.
