Northeast Corridor (NEC) train project.

Location
The trains will run on the NEC between Boston and Washington DC, in the US.

Most of the trains will be manufactured in the US.

The new trainsets will be manufactured at Alstom’s 150-year-old historic site in Hornell, New York.

They will be maintained at Amtrak’s facilities in Boston, New York and Washington DC under a specific Technical Support and Spare Supply Agreement.

Project Description
The NEC line covers roughly 730 km.

Alstom has been awarded a contract to design and build 28 new high-speed trains for the corridor.

The Avelia Liberty train has been ordered by Amtrak, the latest development of Alstom’s high-speed train range Avelia. The new trainset will be able to carry up to 33% more passengers than the current Acela trains.

Jobs to be Created
These contracts will result in the creation of more than 1 000 jobs nationwide, including 750 in New York, with 400 of those at Alstom facilities.

The train contract is valued at $2-billion.
