Noor Energy 1 solar photovoltaic extension project, United Arab Emirates

Name of the Project
Noor Energy 1 solar photovoltaic (PV) extension project.

Location
The project is located at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates.

Client
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).

Project Description
Noor Energy 1 is the fourth phase of the Mohamed bin Rashid Solar Park – the largest single-site solar park in the world.

The project includes the addition of 250 MW of solar PV panels as an extension to Noor Energy 1.

The project, initially expected to deliver 700 MW of energy, will use a state-of-the-art combination of the world’s tallest 260-m-high solar tower that will generate 100 MW, three stations of parabolic trough concentrated solar power each producing 200 MW, and 250 MW generated from PV panels to yield a total capacity of 950 MW.

Latest Developments
DEWA and ACWA Power have signed an amendment to the power purchase agreement for the fourth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. The amendment includes the addition of 250 MW of solar PV panels as an extension to Noor Energy 1 at the world’s lowest cost.

The fourth phase has attained the world’s lowest levelised cost of electricity at  $7.3c/kWh for concentrated solar power technology; and is expected to have the largest thermal energy storage capacity in the world of 15 h, which allows for energy generation round the clock.

Key Contracts and Suppliers
