The Nuclear Industry Association of South Africa (Niasa) and Korea Nuclear Association for International Cooperation this week signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at improving the capacities of the two countries’ nuclear industries.

The MoU covers education and training programmes; trade visits and information exchanges; building business relationships; and providing consultation to develop nuclear energy programmes, including technology acquisition and localisation strategies.

The MoU will also provide consultation to establish a legal and regulatory system in harmony with the international norms and standards.

On signing the agreement, Niasa deputy president Sandisiwe Ncemane noted that the partnership would allow South Africans to acquire skills and build relationships with established partners.

“This is not a static agreement but one which is set to develop tangible programmes for the benefit of the country.”
