The South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) opened its first national head office earlier this month, which it believes will provide greater accessibility for communities and make information on various socioeconomic issues within the country available to them.

Sanco is a national civic organisation formed in 1992 to coordinate local civic structures across the country. The organisation assists communities in accessing services available in different government departments and other parastatals, making it an information centre for the public.

“We have made progress over the past few years towards addressing the challenges faced in delivering information to millions of South African communities. However, there is still a lot of work to be done to service our communities and we recognise that more needs to be done to develop and empower the youth,” says Sanco president Richard Mdakane.

In

the belief that the youth are the future of the country, he says there is a need to equip them with the right resources and information that will promote sound leadership in them.

Owing to this, following the opening of its head office, Sanco strives to be a centre of influence which will address pressing issues such as the absence of sustained economic growth and job creation, which are essential in reducing poverty and improving living conditions in the country.

Sanco general secretary Skhumbuzo Mpanza points out that the new office will allow the organisation to build on its membership base and also alert the public about its existence.

In addition to this, he mentions that the organisation will focus on branding and marketing itself in order for people to identify with it better.

“In the next few months, we will focus on the launch of our website, which will assist the organisation in communicating effectively and providing communities with the information they need,” he concludes.
