New generation digital time switches for ideal control

TIME CONTROL Electrical specialist Legrand’s new generation of digital time switches is suited for air-conditioning systems, thermostats and pressure sensors

France-based electrical and digital building infrastructure specialist Legrand has extended its range of time swit-ches with the launch of a new generation of digital time swit-ches for industrial, commercial and domestic environments.

This range was launched at the end of 2013 and is designed for precise automation in various applications, including heating and cooling control, Legrand Southern Africa GM Luk Ivens notes, adding that digital time switches are ideal for controlling air-conditioning systems and are also designed to work with thermostats, pressure switches or humidity sensors.

“These energy efficient time switches are user friendly, reliable and easy to programme and read – even for a nontechnical person. The functional programming facility ensures optimum safety, performance and reliability, as well as enhanced aesthetics,” he says.

These programmable time switches include a digital display and switch electric circuits – for lighting or heating – on or off at selected times during a preprogrammed time period.

In addition, these time swit-ches are environment friendly and include a changeable battery and a special adaptation for energy saving lamps, he notes.

“Once the date and time have been sent, no adjustment is necessary, while the new design and graphics on the display of these units offers improved visibility,” Ivens says, adding that a terminal block with high torque enhances the safety of the system.

Further, Legrand’s digital Deutsches Institut für Nor- mung rail mounting time swit- ches with multiple functions and programmes for precise control and optimum flexibility have a unique double display, as it not only shows the on and off actions, but also the corresponding days. Additional features include a manual or automatic override on/off facility, as well as a running reserve of six years.

“This flexible range encompasses time switches, with a daily or weekly programme for standard or multiple functions, as well as special function time switches with expanded offset programming for astronomical functions,” he says, noting that there are also time switches with a yearly programme for multiple functions.

Standard units, with a daily or weekly programme, have a clock with a six-year working reserve and a precision of one second a day. These time switches have an automatic summer/winter changeover and are compatible with alternative energy systems, including solar panels, he adds.

In addition, the time swit- ches for multiple functions have a daily or weekly programme facility, which can be programmed and displayed in 15 languages, Ivens says, noting that this range is particularly well suited to irregular cycles in security and industrial installations.

Digital time switches with multifunctions and a yearly pro- gramme have a high precision clock of about 0.2 seconds a day. These flexible units offer about 28 programmes for each channel for weekly, yearly, astronomical and exceptional programmes, he adds.

Further, he notes that only one data key is necessary to create, save, transfer and store programme settings made directly on these new multifunction and multi-programme time switches.

“These time switches for distribution board mounting are ide-ally suited for original-equipment manufacturers, as well as panel builders who can preprogramme the time switch when they install it,” Ivens says.

“When the panel or product is connected to power, the end- user only needs to set the real time, which is done quickly and easily,” he concludes.
