New forklift range helps to increase storage capacity

Materials handling specialist Barloworld Handling has been appointed Southern African dealer for Aisle-Master very narrow aisle (VNA) articulated forklifts, which are manufactured by Ireland-based handling solutions provider Combilift.

Barloworld Handling senior GM Didi Dekker says the Aisle-Master VNA articulated forklifts are designed to increase storage capacity, reduce costs and boost productivity.

“By narrowing working aisle widths to just 2 m, they enable vastly increased pallet density and the potential to achieve an increase in storage capacity of 50% over other forklifts and 30% over reach trucks, which require a much bigger working area. In addition, they are designed to work both inside and out, incorporating features such as solid pneumatic tyres for loading and offloading outside,” he says.

Barloworld states that the Aisle-Master can therefore replace a combination of a counterbalance truck for outside work and an electric reach or guided VNA truck for pallet placement inside. This versatility increases efficiencies in offloading, handling and storage, as it eliminates double handling of pallets and speeds up truck-to-rack operations. It also reduces the number of trucks required, further cutting costs.

Another advantage is that the Aisle-Master requires a transfer aisle width of only 3 m compared with the 5 m required by other VNA trucks, which further increases storage space. It is also much faster between aisles, since it moves like a counter- balance forklift owing to its ability to articulate.

Alternating current electric drive and liquefied petroleum gas-powered models are available with working heights of up to 12.5 m and lift capacities of up to 2.5 t. Its ability to handle most pallets with ease makes the Aisle-Master a flexible option for a range of applications.

“The Aisle-Master has proven an effective solution to space problems for a range of sectors such as third-party logistics, manufacturing and the pharmaceuticals and food and beverage industries. We believe it will also help local customers with limited warehouse space by increasing storage capacity,” says Dekker.

The articulated design offers manoeuvrability, faster load- cycle times and reduced driver fatigue, while superior visibility ensures better placement accuracy, quicker picking and less product damage.

All Aisle-Master models enable straightforward, quick access to components, reducing service and maintenance time and speeding up routine daily checks.

Ease of operation is ensured by the logical layout of controls and the fact that complicated electronics is kept to a minimum.

Its robust construction, high-quality suspension seat, adjustable steering column and lack of rear-end swing when manoeuvring all contribute to a safer and more comfortable working environment.

The Aisle-Master maintains optimum stability when fully articulated.
