New CEO Takes Over The Reins At FibreCo

FibreCo Telecommunications, the national open-access fibre network operator, today announced the appointment of Simon Harvey as its Interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO), taking over from Arif Hussain.

Harvey joined FibreCo at its inception in 2010 and has played a pivotal role as Chief Commercial Officer, successfully driving revenue growth and network acquisition throughout the start-up phase, building up a client base comprising several major operators, service providers and other enterprise clients across South Africa.

Prior to this, Harvey held positions of Manager at Deloitte Consulting and Business Development at Dimension Data. Harvey holds a BSc from the University of Cape Town and an MBA from Wits Business School.

Former CEO, Arif Hussain leaves FibreCo after six years to pursue personal interests. “As a founding member and CEO, Hussain lead the business from the initial JV concept, through the project development and construction phases, into a dynamic fibre-optic network operator” said FibreCo.

“Harvey will lead the company into a new era of growth, by expanding the range of connectivity services across its nation-wide footprint, and extending its fibre rollout to client sites in key towns and metros along the major inter-city routes.”

FibreCo’s network consists of over 4,000km of underground fibre routes as well as carrier-grade equipment hosting facilities interconnecting over 50 sites country-wide, including connectivity to major data centres in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Bloemfontein, Durban, Port Elizabeth, East London as well as the cable landing stations.

FibreCo provides bespoke connectivity solutions ranging from dark fibre to high capacity managed networking solutions allowing its wholesale and enterprise clients to realise the benefits of the massive scalability inherent in high-quality, ultra-fast fibre-optic networks at a small fraction of the cost of deploying such infrastructure nationally.
