Trade and Investment South Africa (Tisa) deputy director-general Pumla Ncapayi will represent South Africa as executive VP of the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (Waipa), the Department of Trade and Industry said on Monday.

South Africa was selected to the Waipa steering committee at the organisation’s yearly conference in Switzerland, and Ncapayi was tasked with serving on the committee on behalf of the country for two years.

Ncapayi would attend the first steering committee meeting in Dubai on Monday.

Trade and Industry Minister Dr Rob Davies commented that the appointment symbolised the confidence the world had in South Africa’s trade and investment policy and business environment.

The move also enabled the country to become “a voice for the improving investment climate on the African continent”, positioning Africa to benefit as well, he added.

The Geneva-based Waipa, which was established in 1995, aimed to promote and develop understanding and cooperation among its 165 investment promotion agency (IPA) members.

The organisation also aimed to enhance outward investments and assist IPAs in advising their respective governments on the formulation of appropriate investment promotion policies and strategies.
