Project Description
The NDF will be one of the most modern facilities of this type in Europe.
The facility will provide multibarrier protection for long-term storage of radioactive waste, which will be initially processed, secured and packed in reinforced concrete packages.
The 138 200 m3 repository will be a near-surface trench facility. It will comprise several reinforced concrete underground structures (modules) separated by internal partition walls into individual cells.
The repository is expected to be filled over 60 years and will be used only for low- and intermediate-level radioactive waste (RAW).
The first RAW disposal module will have a capacity of 6 336 reinforced concrete containers.
