Transnet Freight Rail will undertake the yearly maintenance shutdown of its Natal Corridor (Natcor) rail line, from Rietvlei, in Gauteng, to the Durban harbour, from July 14 to 23.

The planned shutdown enabled major maintenance of the rail infrastructure to be carried out.

The activities would include all aspects of rail infrastructure such as the replacement of more than 40 000 sleepers, screening and cleaning of ballast, maintenance of tunnels and maintenance of electrical components and systems, besides others.

The Natcor line would undergo a total shutdown from 18:00 on July 18 to 21, while a partial shutdown would be in place for the remainder of the time.
