Real estate company Hass Group has unveiled plans to build what will be Africa’s tallest skyscraper, in Nairobi, Kenya.
The $191-million Hass Towers will be built by China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC). It will be 300 m tall and have 67 storeys.
Hass Group will implement the project in partnership with Kenyan real estate developer Jabavu Village and US company White Lotus Projects.
“This will be the tallest building in Africa and become a landmark in Kenya. It is sure to drive regional development, promote economic growth and attract more investment and tourism to Kenya,” says CSCEC VP for overseas operations Li Mingguang.
Hass Group chairperson Abdinassir Ali Hassan says the tower has been designed to represent “the height of African achievement”.
Meanwhile, hotel chain Hilton Worldwide will open a second hotel in Kenya, to be located at the Hass Towers.
Currently, Africa’s tallest building is Carlton Centre, in Johannesburg, South Africa, with the Hassan II Mosque, in Casablanca, Morocco, and Ponte City Apartments, in South Africa, being the second- and third-tallest respectively.
Hass Towers, an iconic mixed-use development, is expected to open its doors in 2020. Construction is due to start this month. It will include Grade A offices, the five-star Hilton hotel and a luxury retail and entertainment complex.
Kenya is one of Africa’s fastest-growing economies, with the best performing sectors being agriculture, tourism, construction and telecommunications.
