Freight logistics group Transnet on Wednesday unveiled its new leadership team and structure, which the State-owned company said was in line with revisions to its operating model and its aspiration to capture new market opportunities.
Group CEO Siyabonga Gama, who was recently confirmed as the company's permanent head, having acted in the position since the departure of Brian Molefe to Eskom, confirmed that Ravi Nair had been appointed CEO of Transnet Freight Rail (TFR), the group’s biggest division. Nair had been acting in the position, which was previously held by Gama himself.
Meanwhile, Mlamuli Buthelezi was confirmed as COO and it was announced that the heads of all the operating divisions would now report to him. Besides Nair, Karl Socikwa was confirmed as head of Transnet Port Terminals, Sharla Chetty as Transnet Pipelines CEO, Richard Vallihu as head of Transnet National Ports Authority and Thabo Lebelo as CEO of Transnet Property.
Thamsanqa Jiyane, the head of Transnet Engineering, was named chief advanced manufacturing officer.
The balance of the group executive committee comprised Garry Pita (CFO), Disebo Moephuli (chief corporate and regulatory officer), Nonkululeko Sishi (chief human resources officer), Krishna Reddy (chief capital officer) and Makano Mosidi (chief information officer from June 1). The position of chief business development officer remained vacant.
Gama noted that, excluding the two executive directors (Gama and Pita), the committee was split equally between men and women.
The executive committee would be supported by Mmathabo Sukati (chief audit executive), Ayanda Ceba (company secretary) and Shulami Qalinge (group executive for strategy).
“In short, we are reshaping the core of our business along with our aspirations and strategic thrusts of being agile, admired, digital and united,” Gama said.
