Project Description
The project aims to repair structural damages and to fully resurface a 50 km stretch of the N12 freeway.

The first phase of the upgrade, which was launched in July, stretches from Zuurbekom, south of Lenasia, to boundary near Fochville, bordering the North West.

The second phase of the N12 freeway rehabilitation project will include the section from Eldorado Park to Zuurbekom, in Soweto.

The project will be implemented along 14 municipal wards spanning the cities of Johannesburg, Westonaria and Merafong.

The ‘user pays’ principle will not apply to this segment of the freeway and no toll fees will be charged.

Value
Phase 1 has cost R374-million. Phase 2 will cost R120-million to implement.

Duration
Different segments of the N12 project are scheduled to be completed within the next 12 to 24 months.
