MTN shoots down CCMA involvement – Solidarity

Trade union Solidarity on Friday said telecommunications group MTN’s refusal to entertain the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration’s (CCMA’s) facilitation of the imminent retrenchment of MTN employees had destroyed trust in the fairness of the process.

Solidarity called on MTN to have the retrenchment, impacting 847 managerial staff, governed by the CCMA, as this would ensure an independent and fair process.

“MTN has now lost the opportunity to remove doubt about the fairness of the process,” Solidarity head of communication Marius Croucamp said, adding that: “By turning down our request for facilitation of the retrenchment process, MTN has, once more, plunged the process into uncertainty and suspicion.”
