MSA acquires US firefighter protective clothing, boot manufacturer

MSA has acquired Globe, a US manufacturer of firefighter protective clothing and boots. The acquisition of Globe strengthens MSA’s position as a clear market leader in North America for fire-service Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) products.

Combined with Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), Thermal Imaging Cameras, and firefighter helmets, MSA can now provide complete coverage for firefighters, in line with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards for firefighter safety.

“Globe is a highly-recognised and respected brand of firefighter turnout gear, which very nicely complements our own line of firefighter protective equipment,” MSA Chairman and CEO William M. Lambert said. “With virtually no product overlap, the acquisition aligns well with our corporate strategy.

“It expands our core product portfolio in a key customer segment. More simply, it means we can now help protect firefighters from head to toe, with Cairns helmets, our industry leading G1 SCBA, and Globe turnout gear and boots,” Lambert commented.

Rick Barr, Sales Manager – International Markets at Globe, delivered a presentation detailing the latest acquisition at the MSA stand at the 31st South African Emergency Services Institute (SAESI) Conference at the Expo Centre, Nasrec in Johannesburg on 2 November. Barr explained that the company operates three US plants – two that manufacture turnout gear, and one that manufactures footwear, each incorporating the latest cutting-and-sewing technology.

Apart from elaborating on the acquisition, MSA Africa used the 2017 SAESI Conference to display its full range of PPE and latest safety technology, Sales Manager Christiaan Hugo added. “We sponsored the Disaster Unit at SA Emergency Care with five Cairns fire helmets, and handed out a Cairns fire helmet as a prize at our stand.”
