Morris Material Handling SA Pty (Ltd)

Established in 1952, Morris Material Handling, of Benoni, on Gauteng’s East Rand, is a manufacturer and supplier of engineered and standard electric overhead travelling cranes and wire-rope hoists.

The 318-employee company, which, besides its Benoni head office, has 16 branches countrywide, also services and maintains all makes of the cranes and hoists it supplies.

The Morris workshop is the single largest covered manufacturing facility in South Africa and was purpose-built for the manufacture of overhead cranes and hoists. Girder fabrication, machine shop facilities, mechanical fitting, shotblast and painting booths and crane layout and electrical panel building areas are therefore contained under a single roof. All manufacturing stages are fully compliant with ISO 9001:2008 quality procedures. In-house mechanical and electrical design offices can tailor a crane for specific process requirements.

All standard electrical installation is done in-house and, if required, special electrical deviations can be done.

Morris Material Handling’s recent major contract awards include the supply of eight cranes to DCD Dorbyl, to be used in the manufacture and assembly of wind turbines. The company also supplied 15 cranes ranging from 2 t to 32 t to Atlas Copco, for the new factory and facilities at its Jet Park, East Rand, headquarters. The City of Cape Town awarded Morris the contract for the supply of two 30 t heavy-duty container handling cranes for the Vissershoek landfill site and the Athlone compaction station for refuse handling.
