Merger forms new African mining advisory group

JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Mine Procurement Solutions (MPS), which comprises MPS South Africa, MPS Tanzania and MPS Mozambique, on Tuesday announced the sale of 100% of its controlling shares to Vhaselwa Engineering & Management Consulting, forming a new entity, the Akhani Group.

With existing operations in South Africa, Mozambique and Tanzania, the group would now focus on entering new markets and planned to expand into Zimbabwe and Kenya in the next year with a long-term strategy to increase its African and international footprint.

Commenting on the newly formed group, Akhani group CEO Fulu Mphuthi said the merger of the two service providers for the mining, oil and gas, and energy management sectors created a comprehensive offering of workforce effectiveness and productivity for the public and private sectors.

“We look forward to the difference that we can make as a unified team to the African economies in which we work. The company provides a one-stop-shop service and customised solutions cost-effectively and our  most valuable asset is our talented workforce, which includes over 400 infrastructure design and supply, operational-efficiency, energy-management, transformation and change-management professionals,” she noted.

Mphuthi said the company focused on enhancing productivity for its customers, while reducing operational costs without shedding jobs unnecessarily.

Moreover, existing partnerships in the supply chain, procurement and energy management arena allowed Akhani to offer product solutions at reduced rates, she added.
