Project Description
The project is intended to increase the capacity of the Melbourne public transport network to keep pace with the needs of a constantly growing population. It will reduce congestion on the existing network, allowing for more trains more often.

The contract covers the construction of 9 km twin tunnels and five underground metro stations, as well as the development of parks and pedestrian and shopping zones in the public spaces around these stations.

Potential Job Creation
The project is expected to create more than 5 000 jobs.

The contract is valued at A$6-billion.

Duration
Works are expected to get under way in early 2018, with 2026 the target date for completion.

Latest Developments
The Victoria government has awarded the contract for financing, designing and building the metro tunnel and maintaining it for 25 years to Cross Yarara Partnership, a consortium led by Lendlease, John Holland, Bouygues Construction and Capella Capital.
