Project Description
The Mall of Africa is the largest retail development on the African continent to be developed in a single phase and will occupy “the heart” of the mixed-use Waterfall City development.

The “super-regional” shopping centre offers 131 038 m2 of retail space. Tenants include local and international brands such as Woolworths, Edgars, Game, H&M and Checkers Hyper.

The mall’s top level boasts a 4 500 m2 undulating steel and glass roof with curved bulkheads that allow for daylight entry, as well as a “luxury mall” section that will offer high-end brands and a champagne bar.

At the centre of the mall, the interior opens onto an exterior restaurant area and the green lung of the Water City development – a large park that extends towards the bottom of the mixed-use development. The mall also has 6 500 parking bays.

R4.9-billion.

Duration
The mall started trading in April 2016.

Latest Developments
The mall started official trading on April 28, as scheduled. It played host to about 70 000 people by 17:00 on the day.

Conservative estimates are that an estimated 15-million people a year will visit the mall.
