The planned reopening of three lanes on the M1 southbound between Oxford and Federation bridges will be delayed by one week as a result of heavy storms earlier this week.
The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) earlier this month completed the structural rehabilitation programme on the M1 Oxford and Federation bridges.
At the time, the agency planned to open the lanes in stages, starting with the northbound carriageway, which was successfully reopened on October 9, increasing the number of lanes to three, from two.
The three lanes in a southbound direction, which were initially scheduled to be opened on Monday, will now be fully opened by the JRA on October 23.
Currently, only two lanes are open to traffic travelling south through the M1 construction project.
“JRA contractors and their teams are working hard to ensure that all outstanding work is expedited without compromising on quality and road safety,” the agency said in a statement on Friday.
