TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – Lithium explorer and project developer Lithium X Energy has appointed former Rockwood Lithium Latin America president and CEO Eduardo Morales as its COO, effective immediately.

Morales brought 36 years of experience as a chemical engineer to the junior company and was critical in building and operating one of the world’s largest lithium brine operations. As Rockwood Lithium president, he led the development, commissioning and operation of Rockwood’s Salar de Atacama project, in Chile. His tenure with Rockwood Lithium ended with the company’s sale to Albemarle for $6.2-billion in 2014.

Lithium X also announced the appointment of Andres Barrientos as its project GM of South American operations.

The experienced operators joined Lithium X's team of lithium luminaries, which included investor Frank Giustra and executive chairperson Paul Matysek, who were expected to lead development of Lithium X’s Sal de los Angeles deposit and assess new business opportunities.

Further, Lithium X announced that a binding letter of intent through which North South Petroleum could acquire the CVL South property, in Nevada, had been terminated. Lithium X received $100 000 in this transaction through a nonrefundable deposit.
