PERTH (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed Kibaran Resources has started a feasibility study on the downstream processing of its graphite product from its Epanko project, in Tanzania.
The feasibility study will include the production of battery-grade graphite for the lithium-ion battery market.
Kibaran told shareholders on Tuesday that the production of battery-grade graphite offered the company a substantial opportunity to add value to the graphite concentrate it planned to produce at Epanko. It would also enable Kibaran to further capitalise on the rapidly growing demand for battery-grade graphite from the lithium-ion battery industry.
The study would be based on initial yearly production consistent with the current market demand for battery-grade graphite, with staged increases based on forecast demand.
Kibaran noted that it would evaluate different routes for the production of spherical graphite with a focus on methods with a low environmental footprint and comprehensive production costs.
