JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Titanium minerals producer Kenmare Resources has temporarily repatriated the South African members of the workforce at its Moma mine, in Mozambique.

The company said in a statement on Monday that this was a precautionary measure, owing to unrest and attacks against foreign nationals working in South Africa, which has led to threats against South Africans working in Mozambique and other African countries.

Out of a total workforce of 1 391 at the mine, 62 are South African.

The Mozambique and South Africa governments were working to settle the unrest, with no suggestion that South African workers would not be allowed to return to Mozambique.

Kenmare expected the operation to continue, without significant disruption if the situation was resolved in the near future.

South Africa’s Sasol has also repatriated 340 South African workers from Mozambique.
