Kenya is set to get a connectivity boost as African Internet services provider iWayAfrica upgrades its network from fixed worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMax) to time-division long-term evolution (TD-LTE).
The company appointed fourth-generation (4G) wireless and telecoms solutions provider Telrad Networks to deploy its dual-mode solutions to enhance the connectivity for its growing base of subscribers in Nairobi, said iWayAfrica Kenya MD Ken Munyi.
“Our upgraded network offers scalability that will help us increase customer satisfaction, expand our customer base and maximise our return on investment,” he explained.
The parties would apply Telrad’s software-defined radio solution to enable a seamless, software-only migration from WiMax to TD-LTE, assisting iWayAfrica in boosting its existing Internet service offerings, which include a variety of broadband services on its WiMax network, and enable significantly increased capacity and coverage.
The group also planned to “aggressively” expand this offering into their remaining sub-Saharan Africa coverage area, which encompassed over 67 000 wireless service business subscribers and more than 20 000 consumer subscribers across the continent.
