Integrated earth leakage protection for circuit breakers

18th September 2019

A new technology that monitors the flow of current and sends a pre-alarm signal in the event of earth leakage, has been integrated into a range of circuit breakers.

The system interrupts the circuit if organic disruptions are detected, preventing the danger of electric shock. This means that during the process of installing circuit breakers, panel builders and contractors are no longer required to install an additional earth leakage module, which can lead to savings in installation time.

Integrating the earth leakage protection into the design means that the circuit breakers have the same frame size as a standard breaker and are able to fit in the same row on a circuit board.

The circuit breakers are part of the Connected Products portfolio of Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure Power, an open, interoperable, Internet of Things-enabled system architecture and platform. The Compact NSX moulded case circuit breaker range and the smaller Compact NSXm range both feature integrated earth leakage protection.

Designed with high-breaking capacities for all standard and specific applications and with an operating current up to 630 A, the Compact NSX range promises corrective, preventative and predictive maintenance and energy management.

The Compact NSXm range for applications up to 160 A, is designed for low-voltage panel boards and control panels. It has a built-in DIN rail and plate-mount capability, with options such as rotary handles and one-click auxiliaries for specific field installations. The range also features EverLink creep-compensating technology, which mitigates the loosening effects of heat cycling or vibration.
