The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on Friday began inviting entries for its Technology for Women in Business (TWIB) 2014 Awards and called on “innovative businesswomen” to enter before the end of June.
The TWIB aimed to recognise businesswomen who leveraged technology to increase the competitiveness and sustainability of their businesses and winners would be announced at a gala dinner in Mpumalanga, during October.
“The programme was designed to help women entrepreneurs access the applied science and technology required to catapult their businesses into the big league and assist them to harness technology so that they can move from the sidelines to the mainstream of the economy,” said DTI head of gender and women empowerment Nomvula Makgotlho.
The awards were open to local 51%-women-owned profitable microenterprises; emerging, small and medium-sized enterprises and cooperatives operating for at least three years.
The prizes would range from information and communications technology business solutions to hardware and software products and entrepreneurial business support.
