The project will be a “fully home-grown initiative” and forms part of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ programme of localising manufacturing. The project will be the first of its kind for India’s nuclear power sector.

The project entails the construction of ten units of India’s indigenous PHWRs.

The total installed capacity of the plants will be 7 000 MW and will result in a significant augmentation of nuclear power generation capacity in India.
