Indalum orders light-metal extrusion press from SMS Meer

3rd December 2013

The Indalum group headquartered in Santiago de Chile, Chile, has ordered from SMS Meer, Germany, a short-stroke front-loading extrusion press with a press force of 32/35 MN. This energy-efficient light-metal extrusion press will allow the company to expand its product portfolio.

The extrusion press will process aluminum billets up to a length of 1,500 millimeters. To achieve the high productivity, the press is additionally equipped with CADEX optimization software for isobaric and isothermal extrusion.

The intelligent start/stop function for the hydraulic main drives ensures energy-efficient production and is currently setting new standards on the market.

The conventional hydraulic drives such as for example side table and billet loader have been replaced by modern servo drives.

To ensure optimal discard shearing, the press is also equipped with an advanced servo-electrical, movable high-performance shear.

Container and stem guidance are based on the tried-and-tested linear guide system patented by SMS Meer, which sets new standards as regards precision and longevity.

“We were convinced by the innovations and permanent further development of the extrusion presses from SMS Meer. The company’s extrusion press technology will not only increase our productivity and quality but also provides us with access to new sales markets. We are proud that we will be operating the largest light- metal extrusion press in Chile in the future,” says José Ramón Jotter, CEO of Indalum.
