Forklift and lift-truck distributor Goscor Lift Hi-Reach launched the Genie SX-180, the tallest self-propelled super boom in Africa, in Johannesburg last month.

“As the official distributor of the well-known Genie range of equipment in Southern Africa, we are pleased to bring this exciting new lifting solution to the market,” said Goscor Hi-Reach CEO George Landsberg.

Goscor MD Dean Jones noted that the Genie SX-180 was immediately available to the Southern Africa market as a rental option from Goscor Access Rental.

“As a specialist rental company, our comprehensive rental fleet of versatile mobile elevated work platforms is suited to a wide range of aerial access applications,” he said.

The SX-180 next-generation telescopic boom lift has been specifically engineered to meet the highest work-at-height installation, erection construction and maintenance requirements across a broad market spectrum, from general construction and chemical industries to utilities, airports, harbours and refineries.

The design of the Genie SX-180 Super Boom is centred on extensive customer feedback to meet the demand for rugged reliability and fast manoeuvrability, as well as easy maintenance and transport.

With a vertical reach of 57 m and a horizontal reach of 24.4 m, the boom lift reaches almost 10 m higher than any previous self- propelled boom lift. It can fully extend or retract in five minutes.

Another key feature of the machine, says Landsberg, is its increased platform capacity, which enhances productivity and safety. Two people can work efficiently and comfortably on the 2.44 m × 0.91 m platform, with easy access to gear and equipment. The boom lift has an unrestricted load capacity of 340 kg.

With a 3.05 m rotating jib to facilitate the precise positioning of workers and gear, the unit is ideal for use in extreme-access tasks

.

Controls have also been improved, with new toggle switches and fully proportional jib and boom controls on the platform. while enhanced ground controls feature a new intuitive function diagram layout complete with tactile membrane switches.

The machine is powered by a choice of new-generation Tier IIIB Perkins or Deutz 74-hp engines and can be driven at full height.

The Genie’s patented extendable and retractable X-Chassis is specially engineered to provide stability and facilitate transport. The machine’s axles are adaptable to specific heavy job-site requirements and can be extended from 2.49 m to 5 m.

Heavy-gauge steel box-section frames provide stable and safe foundations when the axles are extended. Once retracted, the axles are also easily stored within the undercarriage for easy transport.

As it is the only machine of its kind to combine such a platform height with balanced machine weight and compact stored dimensions, the SX-180 can be transported virtually anywhere in the world without having to apply for overwidth or overweight permits.

The Genie is easy to maintain and low in operational costs. With easy-to-reach systems and inspection points, critical components can be removed quickly to keep service time and downtime to a minimum.
