A new rail-mounted gantry crane in operation at the City Deep inland port, in Gauteng, where container handling capacity has been doubled to 400 000 twenty-foot equivalent units, following an R800-million investment by State-owned Transnet. City Deep, which is situated just south of Johannesburg’s central business district, handles about 300 trucks daily, as well as up to ten trains.
