High-density polyethylene pipes supplier bullish on municipal orders

PIPE IN TRENCH The 12-m-long pipes were delivered directly at the installation site where a professional welding contractor welded and installed the pipes on site.

Following its success in completing the supply of a R4.3-million high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipeline in Vosloorus, Gauteng, fluid conveyance products and solutions company Incledon says it is increasingly confident that HDPE pipes are poised to play a more significant role in the domestic market.

Incledon civils sales representative Robinson Patji says the upgrade involved the replacement of an existing municipal asbestos cement pipeline, installed in the 1980s. The company supplied more than 1.4 km of locally manufactured 560-mm-diameter HDPE pipe and the project was completed in November.

The pipes are SANS 4427-approved and have a pressure rating of 12.5 bar. The 12-m-long pipes were delivered directly to site, where a professional welding contractor installed them.

Incledon estimating manager Sue Potter notes that HDPE is a nontoxic material and entirely safe for supplying water, while the lightness of the material makes it an easier and quicker type of pipe to install.

As the HDPE pipes are being locally manufactured, industry’s requirements of a quick turnaround in projects and shorter lead times are being met.

Patji says municipalities across South Africa continue to invest more capital in pipeline upgrades and he is confident of more orders.

“Incledon has successfully supplied large volumes of piping products to numerous municipalities nationwide, with several new projects pending. I believe that the potential for future growth in the municipal market is strong, owing to Incledon’s reputation for providing top-quality products that are supported by our commitment to high levels of after-sales support,” he concludes.
