JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – A contract miner has died owing to an isolated rockfall at TSX-listed silver miner Great Panther Silver’s Guanajuatito mine, in Mexico.

"We feel great sadness over the loss of one of our colleagues, and we offer our sincere condolences to his family and friends," stated Great Panther president and CEO Robert Archer, adding that the safety of employees and contractors remained a top priority for the company.

“We are continuing with a complete safety review across all of our operations that began earlier in the year,” he added.

Great Panther was assessing the cause of the incident and had reported it to the relevant authorities and noted that any necessary steps to prevent the recurrence of such accidents would be taken immediately.

While the area where the accident occurred was closed for investigation, the rest of the Guanajuatito operations were unaffected.
