Project Description
The project will see what is expected to be the construction of the third-largest mosque in the world, which will overlook the eastern seafront of the capital of Algiers. The mosque will be built on 20 ha in the Mohammadia area of Algiers, with its minaret soaring 270 m into the sky, and will be able to accommodate up to 120 000 people.

The development will also feature a library containing one-million works and seating for 2 000, as well as a museum and a research centre.

Work on the mosque has already started and will be completed in 42 months.

Latest Developments
The government of Algeria signed a deal with Chinese construction giant China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) for the building of the mosque in February. CSCEC beat a Lebanese-Italian concern and an Algerian-Spanish company for the contract.
