Gibson Bay Wind Farm project, South Africa

Name and Location
Gibson Bay Wind Farm project, Eastern Cape, South Africa.

Client
Gibson Bay Wind Farm, a company controlled by Enel Green Power RSA (EGP).

Project Description
The Gibson Bay Wind Farm project, with a total installed capacity of 111 MW, will be capable of generating about 420 GWh/y once fully operational. This output corresponds to the yearly consumption needs of about 131 000 South African households, therefore avoiding the emission of more than 383 000 t/y of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

The energy generated by the new wind farm will be sold to South African utility Eskom, in line with the 20-year power supply agreement that EGP was awarded in October 2013 as part of the third round of the Department of Energy’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme.

Value
EGP will invest an estimated €190-million in the plant’s construction.

Duration
Gibson Bay is expected to enter into service in the first half of 2017.

Latest Developments
EGP started construction of the Gibson Bay Wind Farm in April.
