Gautrain train driver strike set to start Monday

The Bombela Concession Company on Friday confirmed that the United Transport and Allied Trade Union (UTATU), the union representing Gautrain train drivers and some station staff, had issued a strike notice, effective Monday morning August 18.

“Engagements are continuing with a view to averting the possibility of a strike and preventing any disruptions to Gautrain services,” said Bombela spokesperson Errol Braithwaite.

“A more comprehensive statement detailing the outcome of that engagement will be disseminated as soon as it is completed.”

Braithwaite said Gautrain customers were requested to follow the Gautrain on Facebook and Twitter and also to SMS the word “ALERT” to 32693 in order to receive service status updates.

Gautrain bus services were unaffected by the labour action.

Bombela operated the Gautrain service on behalf of the Gauteng provincial government.
