The Gauteng Department of Economic Development has intensified its Qondis’ Ishishini Lakho, or Fix Your Business, campaign – aimed at assisting township entrepreneurs in formalising their businesses.

The department has, since the campaign’s launch in October 2015, assisted more than 6 000 businesses in 20 townships across the province. However, owing to the high demand of these services, the department was extending the programme from March to June.

Gauteng Economic Development, Environment, Agriculture and Rural Development MEC Lebogang Maile said, “formalising businesses will no doubt break the norm of township settlements being just labour reservoirs transforming township economies and creating opportunities for sustainable growth.

“The decisions and the interventions that we make as a provincial government are a clear indication of our unwavering support of township-based small-to-medium enterprises,” he added.

Townships visited, to date, include Tembisa, Kokosi, Khutsong, Ivory Park, Ebony Park, Thokoza, Wattville, Actonville, Mamelodi, Tsakane, Reiger Park, Soshanguve, Kagiso, Munsieville, Azaadville, Khutsong and Hammanskraal.
