FlySafair, Pick n Pay to make air travel more accessible

Low-cost airline FlySafair and supermarket chain Pick n Pay have entered into a partnership that will allow travellers to book flight tickets online at FlySafair’s website and pay for the tickets at their local Pick n Pay.

Tickets could also be booked and paid for at Pick n Pay Money Counters, which were being rolled out in selected stores across the country this year.

“Our promise is simple: we want to offer affordable, easy and on-time air travel and this partnership is a great way for us to deliver on that promise for even more people,” said FlySafair CEO Elmar Conradie.

Pick n Pay deputy CEO Richard van Rensburg added that the partnership would allow customers to pay for their flights with cash or card at any Pick n Pay store, or to pay for their flights by switching their smart shopper points.

The companies pointed out that a study done by Effective Measure, in March, had found that airline tickets were the second-most popular online purchase in the country, but that 32.4% of people were hesitant to make payments online.

“For FlySafair, this move is certainly in support of the shopping needs of existing online shoppers but we also see this as a way to make our service available to those that don’t have credit card facilities,” said Conradie.
