TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – Base metals miner First Quantum Minerals reported late on Thursday that it had temporarily halted construction activity at its $6.5-billion Cobre Panama copper mine owing to an illegal work stoppage by some members of its construction workforce.

The illegal stoppage was related to implementing a work roster under the individual employment contracts and within the legal framework for labour in the construction industry in Panama.

The new work roster included 21 days of work with seven days off, compared with a previous roster of 12 days of work with two days off.
