Fifth Bridgeways building awarded GBCSA rating

The 18 000 m2 Bridge Park office development, in Century City, Cape Town, has been awarded a 5-Star Green Star South Africa (SA) Office v1 ‘Design’ rating by the Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA), bringing to five the number of Green Star-rated buildings in the “all-green” Bridgeways precinct.

Designed by dhk Architects and being developed at a cost of R450-million in a joint venture between Rabie Property Group and Growthpoint Properties, Bridge Park comprised two four-storey buildings set over a shared basement and podium.

Construction of the first building, the 9 900 m2 Bridge Park East, was due for completion in June, with Bridge Park West, comprising 8100 m2 of prime office space, scheduled for completion in July. The two buildings would share a basement and podium.

The latest Green Star SA rating brought to four the number of 5-Star Green Star SA rated buildings in Century City.

This included South Africa’s first 5-Star Green Star SA-rated building – Aurecon’s offices. The fourth 5-Star Green Star-rated building in the Century City precinct was the Chevron building.

Century City was also home to two 4-Star Green Star SA-rated buildings – the Business Centre and Number 3 Bridgeways, which were accredited in both the ‘Design’ and ‘As Built’ categories.

Rabie Property Group director Colin Anderson said the group was delighted that Bridge Park had achieved the 5-Star Green Star SA rating in the ‘Design’ category and said the developers were also aiming for its accreditation in the ‘As Built’ category.

The primary contractor on the Bridge Park development was Murray & Roberts, while the sustainable building consultants were PJCarew Consulting.
