PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Mining giant BHP Billiton has reported a fatality at its Metalloys plant, in South Africa.

The miner said in a statement that a contract worker had been fatally injured in an incident on site, on Tuesday.

The Metalloys plant was one of the assets being considered for a spin-off into the separately listed South32, along with a number of other aluminium, coal, manganese, nickel and silver assets.

BHP’s shareholders are set to vote on the divestment of the assets on Wednesday.
