Eurowings Discover launches direct flights from Frankfurt to KMI Airport in Mpumalanga

German airline Lufthansa Group’s leisure carrier Eurowings Discover has launched direct flights from Frankfurt, Germany, to the Kruger Mpumalanga International (KMI) Airport, in Mpumalanga, South Africa.

KMI Airport is located in Mbombela, near the world-renowned Kruger National Park that is popular with domestic and international tourists.

Eurowings has scheduled three weekly direct flights from Frankfurt to KMI Airport, with the first such flight having landed at KMI Airport on November 16.

Eurowings chief commercial officer Helmut Woelfel says the introduction of the flights will make it easier for travellers from Europe to visit the South African wildlife reserve.

Mpumalanga Finance, Economic Development and Tourism MEC Nompumelelo Hlophe says the direct flights will benefit South Africa as a tourism destination.

“We are excited, as the province of Mpumalanga, about the landing of the first ever direct flight from Germany. This is a sign of trust and confidence in our tourism industry. We’re very delighted that this will further expose and promote the destination of Mpumalanga as an international tourist destination of choice.”
