The Simatic Energy Manager Basic solution has been designed for entry-level energy management, and includes Web-based dashboards and access to a cloud-based open Internet of Things analytics platform, as well as a mobile application (app) to monitor consumption data, says industrial control equipment multinational Siemens.

“The scalable energy management system links energy and production data, which enables users to calculate the productivity of energy consumption. The solution enables users to visualise in detail energy flows and consumption values in processes and assign them to the relevant users or cost centres, as well as identify changes,” the company says.

This enables users to evaluate efficiency measures, improve energy procurement and compare energy efficiency across plants and locations in a scalable, transparent, and future-proof manner.

The energy management system, which complies with ISO 50001 energy management standards, can be used to provide visibility of energy consumption quickly, while the dashboards and reports allow for efficiency improvements to be realised rapidly.

“The Simatic Energy Manager Basic provides a way of getting started with energy management. It is easily configured for application, through Web-based functionality, for interactions with the automation systems and for manual data capturing,” the company says.

The Basic solution can be upgraded to the Simatic Energy Manager Pro through a simple licence key process if user requirements increase, such as to perform batch or material-related analyses, baseline management or energy consumption forecasting.

“Simatic Energy Manager Pro allows for efficiency analysis of machines and plants, company-wide energy efficiency control, cost-centre billing and optimisation of the energy procurement. Energy flows and consumption can be made transparent and understandable in all areas of a company,” Siemens says.

The Simatic solution has been applied for energy management in a glass factory in a large industrial park and to reduce energy used in die casting.

Meanwhile, the mobile app enables users to record energy consumption in cases where the energy management system cannot be networked.
