Bio2Watt’s CEO, Sean Thomas, on site at the company’s 4.4 MW Bronkhorstspruit Biogas Plant, in Gauteng. The project has been hailed as a biogas pioneer and is supplying electricity through the Tshwane municipality’s network to BMW South Africa’s Rosslyn factory. Thomas and his backers had to navigate project-threatening red tape, currency fluctuations and regulatory uncertainty to get the project off the ground. The project is located adjacent to a cattle feedlot, with the main feedstock being manure generated from the 20 000 head of cattle and 12 000 sheep.
