The Engen Xtreme Team head into Round Two of GTC Africa at the Aldo Scribante Raceway on 10 September brimming with a confidence borne from their stellar showing in the opening round of the championship and the calming comfort of racing on their home track. The team’s Port Elizabeth-based drivers, Michael Stephen and Simon Moss are certain to push their Engen Xtreme Audi A3 GTC cars to the limits on a circuit they both cut their racing teeth on.
At the opening round of GTC Africa at Zwartkops, Stephen dominated proceedings. He qualified fastest in both races, and won overall for the day to take the early championship lead. Victory in Race Two was as dominant a driving display as you are likely to see, with Stephen taking a decisive 10.9 seconds over his rivals.
“We arrived at the Zwartkops event determined to make an impact,” says Stephen. “As the Engen Xtreme Team we did that very effectively.” Stephen however expects his rivals to have spent many hours toiling in their workshops to try and close the gap. “I am sure our opposition will have ironed out all opening season engineering issues and will be mounting a strong challenge to fight back at Aldo Scribante. But we will be on home ground and I've got a 52 point lead after Round One.”
Stephen’s teammate Moss expects an improved showing in Round Two after his car experienced a few “teething problems” at Zwartkops.
“I've been looking forward to this round on my home track,” says Moss. “At the opening event I didn't really get a chance to push my Engen Xtreme Audi A3 GTC due to a few mechanical problems, so racing at home on a circuit I know very well is going to be an excellent opportunity to get myself into the championship properly.”
The Engen Xtreme Team are certain to make full use of their home-track advantage at Aldo Scribante Raceway on Saturday, 10 September. Fans can expect them to really stamp their authority on GTC Africa.
