Engen got football supporters talking!

Engen proudly staged yet another successful Engen Knockout Challenge in the months of June through to August in 2014. To further engage with the youth and football supporters in South Africa, Engen introduced the “Be the Journo” competition where the supporters became the media.

The competition was based around a partnership with Soccer Laduma where Engen made use of the publication’s “Get Published” portal. The football supporters were asked to write an article that is based on the Engen Knockout Challenge that was taking place in their regions and upload it on to the portal.

Engen rewarded the entrants with an Ipad Mini and a job-shadowing opportunity with publications such as The Herald in Port Elizabeth, Express News in Bloemfontein, the Rising Sun Community Newspaper in Durban, Sowetan Bulletin in Johannesburg and Peoples Post in Cape Town.

One entrant who stood out was a University of Free State student and avid football supporter, Khothatso Mokone who entered the Bloemfontein round of the “Be the Journo competition.” Khothatso loves writing and photography, coupled with his love for sport. The competition presented a perfect opportunity for the young student to showcase his writing skills.

Mokone’s impressive writing skills won him the competition where he participated at the event and was awarded with the bragging rights of being the JOURNO of the Bloemfontein region, an ipad mini and the coveted job-shadowing opportunity at Express Newspapers.

Engen looks forward to the next instalment of the ‘Be the Journo’ competition for the Engen Knockout Challenge!
