Bio2Watt’s 4.4 MW Bronkhorstspruit Biogas Plant was named project of the year, with Mitochondria Energy’s fuel cell power plant at the Chamber of Mines building, in Johannesburg, and the Stellenbosch municipality’s off-grid solution for the Enkanini informal settlement also receiving recognition.

Liz Hart, of Siyenza Management, received the Sanea Energy Education Award along with the Journal of Energy in Southern Africa, while energy journalism Awards were given to Engineering News editor Terence Creamer and Richard Drummond of the Energy Management News.

The Sanedi awards went to Johan Stander, a PhD candidate at Stellenbosch University, for his contribution to the advancement of wind-energy technologies, and Mike Aldous, of Mott MacDonald PDNA, for the company’s role in the development of a new energy efficient head office for the Department of Environmental Affairs.
