While South Africa was enduring more than 20 days of consecutive load-shedding in May, Africa’s largest economy was experiencing an economically debilitating fuel crisis. The Nigerian crisis arose over a disagreement between government and fuel wholesalers on payment for the differential between the subsidised pump price and the international market price.
