The ELB-KCC Consortium (Consortium), is pleased to announce that the official site clearing started and that preparation for bulk earthworks commenced at the Ngodwana Energy (RF) (Pty) Limited 25MW Biomass Power Project. The project will be erected at the Sappi Ngodwana site about 40km from Nelspruit next to the N4 highway and is part of the South African Government Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Programme (REIPPPP).

ELB Engineering Services (Pty) Ltd (ELB), KC Cottrell Co. Ltd (KCC) and the ELB Educational Trust, together as a Consortium, have been appointed as EPC contractor for the 25MW Biomass Project by Ngodwana Energy (RF) (Pty) Limited.

Handover from Sappi to Ngodwana Energy took place during August 2018, with the Consortium taking over responsibility of site, to start site development. ELB will commence the site clearing, geotechnical drilling, access roads and connection of construction services, i.e., water, power and sewage. The bulk earthworks will proceed shortly thereafter, so that piling can start for the Power Island buildings.

KCC has awarded the contract for the boiler and the turbine generator and they are busy with the other major packages in the Power Island.

Apart from technical execution, the EPC has also started engaging with the local community to discuss the economic development opportunities brought by the project.

KCC will be providing the Power Island, consisting of boiler, turbine generator, cooling towers and air pollution control system, while ELB will be responsible for the civil work, fuel handling, electrical switchyard and site erection. KCC is a Korean based company and over the past couple of years a good working relationship has been established with ELB.
